Business driven Enterprise Architecture (EA) Plan – City Plan

     3-Days Training Courses

This Training plan to hold October 2010, For details email to: info@dama.org.cn

Background

Basically we can distinguish between technology driven and business driven Enterprise Architecture. In her book “EA as Strategy” Jeanne W. Ross describes the main Maturity Stages as Technology and Business Architecture. Most companies remains in the IT Technology stages trying to becoming more business driven

Open Group also expresses a strong wish to make TOGAF more business driven working on introducing Business Architecture and Information Architecture in the next version of TOGAF

IRM started in Stockholm 1982 has always been business driven delivering a City Plan describing how to handle the Information Resource in the Business. IRM made the first City Plan for SKF, the global ball-bearing company, in 1983 and recently developed City Plan no 138 for IKEA containing the Business Information Model no 1365.

A City Plan is based on an Overall Business Information Model, a Business Process Model and a number of matrixes illustrating how information, processes, IT Systems and developing projects are related

The knowledge journey

We will give a number of presentations describing how to develop a City Plan. During the course we will split into 4 groups working with a case throughout the education program. The purpose is to move the education as close as possible to a real competence journey, when a real City Plan is developed.

The delegates will learn how to create a Business Information Model. We base the work on Ted Codd and his normalization rules to achieve a model of necessary quality for the City Plan.

Then we create a map of the Business Processes based on Michael Hammers definitions to achieve a model where the customer and customer values are in focus.

The matrices relating information to processes, IT solutions and projects are our own IRM method to give overview and still detailed enough to make analysis possible.。

During this education we will also show in practice an efficient working method for facilitating the type of seminars necessary to create a consensus seeking climate and environment when building a City Plan.。

Delegate requirements

The delegates need no IT background, but should have some years of business experience at management levels. This requirement hold for the majority of delegates. It does not matter if some of the delegates have an IT background, but IT is not on the agenda. It is also OK with a few delegates without much business experience
